Marketing 2.0 in plain language
Someone recently asked the question “What do I need to optimise? My whole blog, the pages of my blog, or my blog posts?”
Ever at your service, I will explain what the difference is between these three, from a Search Engine Optimisation perspective. First, an important note!
Last Friday I wrote a post about Copywriting & SEO, giving you 6 tips to get your blog posts found more.
The essence of the post was that Google wants you to write for humans not for Google. Quality content is essential for your blog posts to rank high in search engines.
Search engine optimisation can be like a big box of misty magic for communicators, PR’s and marketers. This ‘fear’ might stop you from starting a blog. Or, if you’re already blogging, it may well prevent your content from being found by your target audience!

About 3 weeks ago I wrote a post called “How to convert your friends from a Personal Facebook Profile to a Facebook Fan Page”. This used to be quite a hassle, because Facebook didn’t offer an easy way to do this.
Yesterday Beatrice Whelan a webdesigner and blogger from Ireland, posted a comment on my blog saying that Facebook now offers an easy, automatic way to convert your friends from a Personal Profile to a Facebook Page.
These days great content can come to you in many different ways. Your friends share stuff on Linkedin, your followers tweets links on Twitter and your business network shares stuff on Linkedin.
Still, I’m a big fan of my RSS Reader.
To give your business a presence on Facebook, you need to set up a Facebook Page instead of creating a Personal Facebook Profile for your business.
But what if you have already set up your business as a personal account? How can you move, transfer or convert your existing Facebook friends to your new Facebook Page?
Nearly everyone I meet professionally has a Linkedin profile. Most of those people have a pretty complete profile including a picture, recent experience, etc.
But only very few seem to bother with putting the right keywords in their profiles.This means that your profile will not show up in search results within Linkedin.
According to a survey by RJMetrics, core Twitter users are very committed users, but interestingly, more than 80% of Twitter accounts are inactive.
So the chances are that you have quite a few inactive Twitter accounts in your Twitter following.
My view: they ain’t doing you any good. Might as well get rid of them!
You have probably noticed that you can integrate your Twitter account into your Linkedin profile. This means you can post your tweets in your LinkedIn profile.
If you choose to integrate your Twitter and Linkedin accounts, you have two choices:
1. Share all your tweets in your Linkedin status
2. Add the ‘#in’ hashtag to share only specific tweets
